Gospel on he Third Sunday of Lent
John 4 : 5~42
It records the conversation between Jesus and a Samaritan woman. Jesus is not limited by concepts of race, gender and class. He is ready to engage, communicate and save all people. This shows the core teachings of human dignity and equality. It also shows Jesus' mercy and forgiveness for sinners. The woman confessed her sin to Jesus. But instead of condemning her. Jesus forgave her and taught her to stay away from sin.
The salvation that Jesus is about to bring to the world is also hinted at in the scriptures. Jesus told the woman that the person who drinks the water He gives and never thirsts is a reference to those who receive His salvation.
It is also a reminder of the need for people to be ready for the proclamation of the gospel and the sharing of faith. The woman returned to the village and told others what Jesus had said after her conversation with him. This inspired the villagers to seek Jesus' grace and salvation. Through Jesus, the dialogue with the Samaritan woman reveals the dignity and equality of God's people. The mercy and forgiveness of sinners, and the salvation of Jesus Christ.
